Virtual Reality – All The EXPLANATION You need !

Let’s start first by introducing the term VR that stands for Virtual Reality, its definition, history, technic and technology beyond besides future horizons of Virtual Reality technology.

virtual reality is replacing your reality with some new virtual computer-generated environment and it could be some game or some environment you walk around or some video that’s playing all around you when you look around but the idea is to trick your brain into thinking that that’s your new reality.

We think of virtual reality is a fairly modern concept,  it’s been written about in science fiction since the 1930s in the 1960s we finally started to see gadgets like the sense of Rama, which also included sounds and smells we started to then see things like the view master get created which were goggles that would show a picture, and would build the foundation for virtual reality.

Virtual reality has been talked about for a while, so it’s not surprising that virtual reality has already been made for the masses and it was relatively unsuccessful video game companies like Sega and Nintendo have both created virtual reality headsets.

Gaming and entertainment as the main use for virtual reality but there are many other opportunities for example militaries across the world have begun using virtual reality for training and simulations including for their combat medics.

Virtual Reality Definition :

The virtual reality is replacing your reality with some new virtual computer-generated environment and it could be some game or some environment you walk around or some video that’s playing all around you when you look around but the idea is to trick your brain into thinking that that’s your new reality.

Virtual reality also known as VR uses a headset with a built-in screen that displays a virtual environment for you to explore these headsets use a technology called head tracking which allows you to look around the environment by simply moving your head.

VR started with the air force actually as part of their flight training program and its flight sim now obviously that’s much easier and cheaper to have new pilots practicing stuff like fighting maneuvers and shooting things and ejecting and crashing, all without shooting and ejecting and crashing actual million dollar planes so that’s where VR makes perfect sense now. In 2015 companies are making these personal VR experiences that you can just buy and use for your own entertainment all you have to do is just put it on your face.

Virtual Reality History :

We think of VR is a fairly modern concept,  it’s been written about in science fiction since the 1930s in the 1960s we finally started to see gadgets like the sense of Rama, which also included sounds and smells we started to then see things like the view master get created which were goggles that would show a picture, and would build the foundation for virtual reality.

headsets that we see now in a nutshell virtual reality is really a blanket term for anything that seemingly replaces the reality, you’re in created digitally here’s how it usually works most of it is sight driven a way to confuse our minds into what we’re seeing so a headset or goggles are created which cover all sight and replace with something else in most cases there are actually two images one over each eye and when we’re looking at these images both at once we get a sense of three dimensions there are also built in gyroscopes .

VR has been talked about for a while, so it’s not surprising that virtual reality has already been made for the masses and it was relatively unsuccessful video game companies like Sega and Nintendo have both created virtual reality headsets.

The Virtual Boy by Nintendo was discontinued after less than a year of production and it’s the company’s second lowest selling platform ever so in current day let’s look at what options are starting to become popular the first big one is the oculus rift which began as a Kickstarter campaign collecting 10 million dollars. However was then purchased outright by Facebook for 2 billion dollars.

The Virtual Reality technology :

Google cardboard is a pair of lenses and a place to hold your smartphone which becomes your screen and your VR engine now there are actually two kinds of VR headsets type one is the accessory that you plug your smartphone into that becomes the screen so something like Google cardboard or Samsung’s gear VR.

And then type 2 is the standalone unit that does everything it has a gyroscope and the screen and everything built-in so that would be something like oculus rift or HTC vive both types of course have these lenses that help your eyes focus on the stereoscopic image that’s right up against your face.

But whatever and they all have this gyroscope and accelerometer that help track your head movement and that’s what helps put you in your own little world.

Virtual Reality Applications :

Gaming and entertainment as the main use for VR but there are many other opportunities for example militaries across the world have begun using VR for training and simulations including for their combat medics.

Driving schools have begun using VR to help prepare students for actual in the car lessons.

Medical students can use VR to study anatomy and practice procedures on a completely imaginary patient.

Some doctors are even using virtual reality to address phobias of people might such as flying in an airplane or fear of heights these individuals can confront their fears in a safe and controlled space often resulting in dramatic positive progress in real life.

The technology leaders :

The three VR giants companies are :
SONY : Sony’s PlayStation VR (PSVR).
Facebook : Oculus Rift.
HTC : HTC Vive.
